• Only open standards matter

  Methinks all file/data formats should be open standards, it's the only way to make sure the data lives on even as the format creators pass away. It may not be good for money (it's always nice to collect licensing fees), but it's good for the humanity. So of course I voted yes, and I voted OGC, though it's not that important who maintains the standard as long as it's open.

    I agree with you, except maybe on the importance of who maintains the standard. I tend to believe the organization that maintains standards must have credibility and be ready to spend resources to maintain and assure the standard's future (e.g. adjusting/improving the standard as things evolve).
